“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:11, ESV
I first have to say how much I appreciate that you’ve come back for another round of “Bumbling Beauty”. I’m honored and humbled and all of the things, and I’m glad you’re here!
I’ve already taken some time to unpack why this blog exists and what I hope we’ll gain from it together, but I also want to tell you a little about yours truly! Disclaimer: This is basically a brief highlight reel of my life, so don’t fret, we WILL get into the weeds and bumbles before it’s all over. But for today, I want to share and rejoice in the plans the Lord had for me!
My name is Melisa Patterson, and I am a 25-year-old Southern girl born and raised in North Carolina. I grew up in a Christian home and gave my life to Christ during Vacation Bible School as an 8-year-old. I’ve strayed from and grown in my faith since that day, and God’s given me grace through every second of it. I was raised by a strong single mom with my younger sis for the first ten years of my life until my mom remarried, and her husband later adopted us, giving us the first glimpse and experience of earthly fatherhood, which also had its ups and downs, but was pretty cool!
I always adored school and found comfort and pride in my ability to succeed academically. My childhood and adolescence were spent in dance classes and choir rehearsals, chasing boys, and finding my way through friendships and faith, with plenty of bumbling along the way, of course. After graduating from high school, I went off to college at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I studied Sociology and minored in Music and Social and Economic Justice. During my time at Carolina, I made lifelong friends, sang in a Christian a cappella group, studied abroad, and fell deeply in love with the Lord. After graduation, I married the absolute love of my life, Ben, and went straight on to graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to get my Master’s degree in Social Work. Last year I finished up my studies and took my first full-time job as a foster care social worker with a small nonprofit agency in Charlotte, NC. My husband, who is currently a full-time graduate student himself, and I live in Concord, NC, attend Charity Baptist Church, and spend our time eating, exercising, watching Netflix, and doting over our floof of a dog, Irie. Peep some fun photos down below!
I realize that the only person probably reading this right now is my mom, ha, but if you’re here, I want to know more about you too! Tell me about yourself, why you’re here, and what you hope to gain by joining me for “Bumbling Beauty”. I’m excited to be on this journey with you!
I’m thankful for you, friends, here’s to some beautiful bumbles this week!
